Blackboard Achieves FedRAMP Authorization for Leading Learning Management System on AWS GovCloud
New certification furthers Blackboard’s commitment to helping federal agencies meet their mission goals

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 24, 2018) — The U.S. federal government has granted FedRAMP Low-Impact SaaS authorization to Blackboard for its award-winning learning management system, Blackboard Learn, on AWS GovCloud. Blackboard is one of the first cloud service providers to complete the streamlined FedRAMP Tailored for Low-Impact SaaS solutions process that was released in September 2017. FedRAMP Tailored was developed to offer a faster process for industry solutions, like Blackboard Learn, that are low risk and low cost. This achievement certifies that Blackboard has passed the federal risk management process defining standard security requirements for all Cloud Services Providers (CSPs).

Blackboard Learn SaaS is now eligible for use by all federal agencies that meet the requirements for Low Impact SaaS (Li-SaaS). In order to further its commitment to safety and security, Blackboard is continuing to pursue FedRAMP Moderate certification.

Blackboard Learn SaaS offers a continuous virtual learning solution designed to be agile and flexible enough to adapt to today's learning challenges and those that may arise in the future. In contrast to many other learning management systems, which only deliver content to learners, the Blackboard Learn platform uses extensive collaboration and interactivity to fully engage learners with activities like group projects and discussions, wikis, blogs, and the ability to incorporate a wide range of multimedia content. These elements facilitate continuous and social learning, which further heighten learner engagement.

The Blackboard Learn platform has demonstrated its pedagogical expertise in the government environment for more than a decade and is a critical part of learning programs for organizations demanding the utmost in performance and security, including those in the defense, intelligence, and civilian communities.

“Achieving FedRAMP LI-SaaS authorization is a testament to Blackboard’s long-standing commitment to ensuring a secure environment for our U.S. government clients looking to effectively train, develop and engage their personnel,” said Bryna Dash, Vice President of Blackboard’s Government division. “Our infrastructure choice of AWS GovCloud enables us to provide the highest levels of security to our clients, supporting their most critical mission sets."
